How to find the Essex Record Office
We are located on Wharf Road, Chelmsford, Essex CM2 6YT.
Works to replace the river bridge located near to our entrance are currently taking place. The Bailey bridge linking us to Baddow Road car park has been removed with a diversion in place for pedestrians and cyclists. There are diversions in place for footpaths and the main access route for the Essex Record Office during the work will be from Wharf Road. The nearest public car park to us during the works is the Meadows Retail Car Park which can be accessed from the High Bridge Road and Springfield Road roundabout. The public entrance is reached from the riverside path. (Please note that if you ask Google Maps to provide you with walking directions it takes you to the back of the building.)
By bike
The cycle path which runs along the river is temporarily closed. The main access route for the Essex Record Office at the moment is from Wharf Road. There are cycle racks by the public entrance.
By train or bus
We are a 20 minute walk from the railway station and bus station in Duke Street. There are also bus stops at the southern end of Springfield Road and on Parkway, both of which are a short walk from us.
By car
There are three parking spaces for Blue Badge holders close to the public entrance to the Record Office, accessible by a driveway from Wharf Road.
